Hebrew Months & First Fruits
What Month is it?
Along with the Gregorian calendar, we also follow the Hebraic calendar, which contains the original timing that was followed in biblical times. Here, you can learn about the current month and gain an understanding of its significance in your everyday life.
First Fruits begins the 1st day of each Hebraic Month. Interestingly the Hebraic Calendar have two “New Years”. One is for the Civil New Year and the other New Year is an Ecclesiastical New year. The Civil New Year begins the Hebraic New Year of which is 5785. Globally we operate from a Gregorian Calendar structure which the New Year begins on January 1, and we are in year 2025- Here’s a breakdown of the differences and the two New Years on the Hebrew calendar:
Gregorian Calendar
Type: Solar calendar
Based on the Earth's revolution around the Sun (365 days a year, with a leap year every 4 years)
Structure: 12 months of fixed lengths, ranging from 28 to 31 days
Used internationally for civil purposes
New Year: January 1, marking the beginning of the calendar year
Hebraic Calendar
Type: Lunisolar calendar
Months are based on the phases of the moon (29–30 days), but the years are adjusted to align with the solar cycle.
A leap month is added 7 times every 19 years to keep the calendar aligned with the seasons.
Structure: 12 months (or 13 in a leap year)
Begins with Nisan in the spring (ecclesiastical new year) or Tishrei in the fall (civil new year).
New Years:
Ecclesiastical New Year (Nisan)
Begins on the 1st of Nisan (March/April).
Marks the start of the religious year.
Associated with the Exodus from Egypt and the establishment of Israel as God’s covenant people.
Important for determining dates of biblical festivals, such as Passover.
Based on God’s command in Exodus 12:2: “This month [Nisan] shall be for you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year for you.”
Civil New Year (Tishrei)
Begins on the 1st of Tishrei (September/October).
Known as Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
Marks the start of the civil calendar.
Celebrates the anniversary of creation and the beginning of God’s kingship.
Tied to biblical references such as Leviticus 23:24, which describes the “Day of Blowing the Shofar.”
Hebraic Months for 2025
Each month has a meaning based on their Hebrew name and a tribe of Israel associated with the month.
-
10th Hebrew Month Tevet (טבת)
January 1-January 28, 2025
“Month-In the Midst of Destruction there is Mercy”
Tribe of Dan- “Judge/ Justice; Authority”
Dan is linked with judging, growing up and maturing. See Genesis 49:16–18. Samson came from the tribe of Dan (see Judges 13). Samson didn’t mature, and therefore didn’t reach his potential. God wants us to be able to judge/lead, and to be able to cause the enemy to fall backward. Unlike Samson, God wants us to grow up and mature. Declare that you are maturing.
-
11th Hebrew Month Shevat (שבט)
January 30th-February 28, 2025
“The Month of The Righteous One”
Tribe of Asher- “Time to Re-group and Develop a New Taste for the Goodness of the Lord”
Asher is the tribe connected to the ideas of pleasure and good things. In Genesis 49:20, Jacob’s blessing stated Asher would have a life filled both with an abundance of food and delicacies fit for a king. (This is what God wants for you.) Shout, “My Blessings are on the way!”
-
12th Hebrew Month Adar (אדר ב׳)
March 1-March 29, 2025
“The Month of Strength; My Fear Shall Laugh”
Tribe Naphtali-“Hinds Feet in High Places”
Naphtali means “sweetness” to me. It is a time of celebration so that your curse is overturned and things become sweet to you. In Deuteronomy 33:23, we see that
Naphtali is full of the blessing of the Lord.
-
1st Hebrew month- The Month of Passover-Nisan (ניסן)
March 30-April 28, 2025
“The Month of Deliverance, Repentance, and Redemption”
Tribe Judah- “Praise goes First; Leader, Authority”
Judah goes first into warfare. (See Judges 1:2; 20:18.) Judah was also the first tribe in the order of procession when Israel moved in the wilderness (Num. 10:14). Judah means “praise,” and is also the way we can keep our hand on the neck of the enemy (Gen. 49:8). Let everything, we do start with an attitude of thanksgiving and praise.
-
2nd Hebrew month-Iyar (אייר)
April 29-May 27, 2025
“The Month of Increased Revelation and Healings”
Tribe of Issachar- “He will bring a reward; knower’s & understander’s of times and seasons”
“The sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do.” Compare this with Ephesians 5:15-17 which enjoins us to understand our times. This enables us to keep moving ahead, instead of just passing time. God wants us to see each day, each week, and each month as a cycle of new things. He wants to bring restoration into our lives and bless us. Look at the list of things accomplished for us at Passover and watch them grow in your life. (Some of the blessings of Passover include the following: a new level of deliverance; new “crossing over”; new provision; a “rolling away” of old identity and reproach; new intimacy with the Lord; new strategy.)
-
3rd Hebrew month- The Month of Pentecost-Sivan (סיון)
May 28-June 26, 2025
“The Month to “Walk your Talk; Press on through to the Future”
Tribe of Zebulun- “They shall take the abundance of the seas and the treasures and multiply”
The “business” month, and the month of Pentecost (June 12-13). God wants us to learn about prosperity. Genesis 49:13 states, “Zebulun shall dwell by the haven of the sea; He shall become a haven for ships, and his border shall adjoin Sidon.” Deuteronomy 33:19 states, “For they shall partake of the abundance of the seas and of treasures hidden in the sand.” We must conquer the Western mindset (or way of thinking) that it is we who earn our money, or that we earn our livings by our own efforts. Work is part of our ministry, and yes, “the sweat of [one’s] face” came about because of the fall of Adam (Gen. 3:19), but God wants us to know it is He who gives us the power to obtain wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18).
-
4th Hebrew Month Tammuz (תמוז)
June 27- July 25 ,2025
“Month to see God's plan and go through the gate.”
Tribe of Reuben- “The lampstand of God in You”
He lost his inheritance as firstborn. Reuben is an example of someone with great potential, but because he did not deal with basic issues, he did not excel. Ask the Lord to help you deal with issues that are holding you back. Genesis 49:3-4 describes Reuben: beginning of power; excellence and dignity; unstable as water.
-
5th Hebrew Month Av (אב)
July 26-August 24, 2025
“The Month of metamorphose”
Tribe of Simeon- “To hear and obey, unstable until joined to praise”
Time to move forward. Simeon messed up, just like Reuben (the previous month) who was unstable. He was called an “instrument of cruelty” (Gen. 49:5). Also, there seemed to be instability, perhaps from his mother Leah, who felt that bearing him would earn her the love of her husband (see Gen. 29:31-33). We are grafted into the great inheritance God has for us. However, when there is instability in the bloodline, we need to develop spiritual discipline. (For example, “I guess I am weak-willed, “or, “Hot tempered is just how I am.”) The enemy understands how to use our iniquitous patterns to pull us back. When we agree with Satan’s iniquitous plan, it gets rooted in us. Pray, “Lord, I am not unstable; nor will I mess up like Simeon (who chose revenge and unforgiveness). I ask for spiritual discipline to not agree with the enemy about how I see myself. Rather, I choose to believe You, Lord, and what you say about me. I want Your patterns to be rooted in me. I ask that patterns of giving up, and making easy instead of right choices, would be exposed in my life and uprooted.
-
6th Hebrew Month Elul (אלול)
August 25-September 22, 2025
“The Month the King is in the field”
Tribe of Gad- “I am my Beloved’s and my Beloved is mine”
When Gad was being born, Leah said, “A troop comes,” (Genesis 30:11) which indicates increase. Refer also to Jacob’s blessing in Genesis 49:19, “Even though a troop will trample over him, he shall triumph. ” This also indicates that this is a month of triumph and victory. Say, “Lord thank You for great triumph and victory this month.”
-
7th Hebrew Month- Happy New Year 5786-Tishrei (תשרי)
September 23-October 22, 2025
“Holy of Holies Month” The Fall Feast; The Appointed Times of God.”
Tribe of Ephraim- “House of Joseph- Be Fruitful and Multiply”
Ephraim, the second son of Joseph. Be fruitful and multiply See Genesis 49:22, “Joseph is a fruitful bough … his branches run over the wall.” Also see Genesis 49:26, “The blessings of your father have excelled the blessings of my ancestors. “This month is linked with Joseph, which refers to a double portion. Joseph had two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, who became two of the twelve tribes of Israel.
-
8th Hebrew Month Cheshvan (חשון)
October 23-November 20, 2025
“Month of Anointing and Deliverance”
Tribe of Manasseh- “Your Anointing Will Bloom”
To forget, to leap up and away. Just like the meaning of Manasseh’s name (Gen. 41:51), God blesses us so we can forget the hardships and sufferings. We have to be careful in this month—ask the Lord how to maneuver through the activity that goes on. Remember Jesus, “who for the joy that was set before Him endured” (Heb. 12:2).
-
9th Hebrew Month Kislev (כסלו)
November 21-December 20, 2025
“Month to Develop war strategies, enter new level trust, tranquility and peace”
Tribe of Benjamin- “Enter into Peace and Tranquility”
He was the only one of the twelve born in the land of Israel, so watch Israel. Things will happen that change its course. Last month focused on new anointing. Now we press in for prophetic revelation for strategies. Benjamin was the most gifted with the bow; Hit the mark (which can represent prophetic strategy). Genesis 49:27 states, “Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil.” Declare that over yourself this month.
